The premise of Jolly LLB 2 is no surprise : A good for nothing lawyer (or a has been, as in PINK, or Damini) takes up a fight for the underdog, against the system, with a predictable outcome. What makes the movie worth watching are the delightful dialogues and the quirk infused into some of the key characters, including Jolly. The first half is eminently watchable, managing to get a chuckle out of you ever so often. The 2nd half 's screenplay is sketchy - the writers make very little effort to make the court case gripping- which given that we are dealing with a courtroom drama - is unfortunate. However Akshay as a 'Kanpuria' 'scrappy street smart lawyer and Annu Kapur, as his wealthy counterpart manage to adequately hold your attention. The movie's scene stealer however is Saurabh Shukla, as the judge. He has the most quirk and I found him to be absolutely delightful. Huma Qureshi is too polished to convincingly pass off as the wife of a lower middle class lawyer's wife. She sticks out as a sore thumb in this otherwise fun tale. I loved several things about this movie : the seamless integration of hindu and muslims across all strata of society; the subtle message that there are good and bad people everywhere- and religion has nothing to do with it ; the subversive feminist messages peppered through the film - a cricket match of women in burkha and ghagras with their pot bellied men cheering them on, Jolly cooking and feeding his wife. Overall I wpuld rate Jolly LLB a 3/5. Totally worth one watch.
